If you use Facebook "Like" buttons to make it easier for your website visitors to recommend your pages to their friends, you may be asking yourself if you should add the Google +1 button as well. Adding the code for each button to each page can be time consuming. However, allowing your website visitors to easily vote for your web content can improve your search engine results on Google and Bing. The extra effort is worth the trouble.
A new tool that was released earlier this week may help to simplify this process. If you only have the Facebook Like code installed on your web pages, the Like +1 Chrome Extension will allow your visitors to vote for your page content on Facebook and Google at the same time. The extension changes the Facebook "Like" button into a hybrid Like/ +1 button, allowing the visitor to recommend your content on both services with one click. However, the extension has to be installed on the visitor's browser in order for the hybrid image to be displayed. Since only the most proactive web visitor would be likely to use the extension - the best practice is to add the code for both Google and Facebook, or better yet a multi-bookmarking service such as AdThis.
