Google enters into direct competition with Facebook

Earlier today, Google unveiled the next level of social networking: The Google+ Project.  Currently available by invitation only, The Google+ Project will eventually offer features that give users much greater control over social sharing.  Google "Circles" will allow users to create friend classifications so that not all information will be shared with everyone. "Sparks" is a feature similar to Google Alerts that allows users to subscribe to new content as it becomes available.  The new video chat service is dubbed "Hangouts" and it promises draw people away from Facebook, which currently lacks such a service.  "Instant Upload" allows users to quickly share photos from their smartphones.  "Huddle is a group texting feature designed to help friends to connect on the go. Update (7/1/11):  Google introduced sweeping changes across many platforms this week.
